Ten years ago, community leaders in Carlsbad came together to found the Carlsbad Charitable Foundation (CCF), giving Carlsbad residents an opportunity to “give where you live” to build a stronger community for all who live, work and play in the area.
The founding members believed CCF had strong potential but didn’t realize exactly how significant its impact would become.
Today, CCF members have generated more than $1.3 million worth of impact to strengthen the Carlsbad community.

Over the years, CCF has supported programs spanning health & human services to environment to arts & culture and beyond.
The first grant cycle focus was youth education, with $43,780 granted to local programs, including $20,000 to the Carlsbad Educational Foundation (CEF).
The grant provided the training, materials and necessary equipment to support the development of a viable Carlsbad Middle School Science Olympiad program.

Prior to the CCF grant, “our fledgling program was a ‘David’ in a field of ‘Goliaths’ at the regional competition,” expressed Cynthia Stanley Kasper, CEF fundraising collaborator. “The increased participation made possible by the Carlsbad Charitable Foundation brought greater visibility and demand for the Science Olympiad program in Carlsbad as a whole.”
Since that inaugural grant cycle, CCF has gone on to support 44 programs, including:
No matter the area of focus, every CCF grantee shares the common bond of supporting programs dedicated to strengthening the community of Carlsbad today, and for future generations.
CCF members celebrated their 10th Anniversary at the Flower Fields of Carlsbad, announcing the long term goal of growing their impact to $10 million.

On August 9, 2022, we awarded $838,704 in Opening the Outdoors grants to 24 nonprofit organizations that offer equitable access to outdoor spaces in San Diego County.
“San Diego Foundation is proud to once again support its partners committed to increasing community-driven efforts to enhance accessible outdoor space, encourage youth to learn more through hands-on education and create the next generation of environmental stewards in the San Diego region,” said Christiana DeBenedict, SDF Director of Environment Initiatives.
This year’s grantees will help address these inequities and enhance access to the outdoors throughout San Diego County.
