Happy summer!

The Carlsbad Charitable Foundation (CCF) just finished its 10th grant cycle, and as we’re set to begin our 2017-2018 cycle, now would be a great time to volunteer for our Grants Committee or Membership Committee if you are interested in getting more involved with CCF.

Recapping the 2016-2017 Grantmaking Process

Here is a spotlight from Grants Chair Gaylen Freeman about the 2016-2017 grantmaking process:

“Through a survey, CCF members expressed overwhelming interest in a grant’s cycle focused on Health & Human Services. As a result, the CCF Grants Committee engaged in extensive research to uncover Carlsbad’s greatest need within that area. An emphasis on addiction and substance abuse was determined to be a major challenge in our community.

“The committee designed a Request for Proposals (RFP) that targeted this issue. In addition, the discovery process made clear that any effective solution would have to involve multi-agency collaboration and a close working relationship with local police and other first responders.

“After reviewing numerous applications and conducting requisite site visits, the Grants Committee found that one applicant achieved our desire for impact far and beyond any of the others. It is an outstanding organization under strong management and with whom we have a history. The organization also has a track record of success with program delivery, and for whom collaboration is second-nature.

“It is with great pride and excitement that the CCF Grants Committee awarded $60,000 to Interfaith Community Services (ICF) to assist drug- and alcohol-addicted individuals in Carlsbad.

“This grant will allow ICF to hire a full-time, first-time social worker/case manager to focus on triage, intervention and placement for substance-addicted individuals. Their $60,000 grant request will support a start-up program within an established organization, focused specifically on Carlsbad, but availing itself of partnerships and resources throughout the region.

“It is a groundbreaking solution to a critical issue within our community. “
