Letter from our Chair

Happy 2016 Carlsbad Charitable Foundation (CCF)! The great WWII leader Winston Churchill once said that “we make a living on what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” On behalf of our CCF family, we welcome our newest corporate and individual members: Grand Pacific Resorts, Poseidon Water, John and Debbie Phillips, and John Duca.

Thank you for joining our investors of Carlsbad.

Thank you to all listed below who have renewed your investment in Carlsbad. I am grateful to all of you who have helped to impact the lives of many Carlsbad residents through eight years of grantmaking to nonprofit organizations.

This year’s granting cycle will impact Arts and Culture and Health and Human Services of Carlsbad residents. Our Grants Committee is busy vetting the nonprofit applicants for 2016 grants. Thank you to our Grants Committee members and nonprofit partners for all your time and energy to serve Carlsbad.

Your Board, Membership and Marketing, and Events Committees, made up of investors like you, are busy giving their time to CCF. We are able to grow CCF and the impact we have on Carlsbad thanks to their time and dedication.

If you have an opportunity, take your friends and neighbors to see the newly installed CCF Kindness Meters located at Agua Hedionda Lagoon Discovery Center and Tip Top Meats. CCF founder Carlton Lund is responsible for these unique meters that help to make Carlsbad the “Kindness City” by promoting charitable giving. Read more about the meters below!

Take care and here’s to another great granting cycle!

Inspiring Kindness in Carlsbad

CCF founding member Carlton Lund was inspired in 1970 after a chance meeting with actor and philanthropist Paul Newman.

Newman founded Newman’s Own, which donates much of its revenue to numerous charities. Carlton wanted to do something similar, but on a smaller scale.

Fast forward to 2015, he made his dream a reality with the launch of the kindness meters.

Carlsbad Kindess Meters

CCF Founding Member Carlton Lund has led a plan to install kindness meters in the community that help promote kindness and harmony among residents.

Carlton founded the IPS Group of Sorrento Valley and together they came up with a plan to install meters in Carlsbad that would help promote kindness and harmony among Carlsbad’s residents. Individuals can donate from $1 to $999 with a credit card or drop in coins to meters located at Agua Hedionda’s “Kindness Walk” or at Tip Top Meats.

Each meter benefits a different cause. Beneficiaries include the Carlsbad Educational Foundation, Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation, and Carlsbad Charitable Foundation, all of which benefit from kindness meter donations for years to come.

One of the CCF meters located at Agua Hedionda is dedicated in the memory of the late June Williams, a CCF founding member.

Whether through an individual, corporate or kindness contribution, there are numerous ways for someone to make their philanthropic investment in Carlsbad.
