Theresa Burke

Greetings,

Thanks to your input, we have completed our 4SRanch-Del Sur Community Foundation (4SCF) 2021 grants cycle. We look forward to announcing and celebrating our grantees this summer!

With the help of a grant from The San Diego Foundation COVID-19 Community Response Fund and philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, 4SCF is able to support the community in specific COVID-19 recovery efforts. We will announce that grant recipient with the rest of your grant recipients in the months ahead.

We would love to hear from you on your comfort level gathering for in-person events and outdoor events. Please contact any board member or email Regional Affiliates Director Trudy Armstrong at trudy@sdfoundation.org.

In addition to myself as Chair, your 2021 4SCF Board includes Grants Chair Ray Hower and board members Lynn Aguilera, Sheila Godkin, Deanne Hormovitis and Theresa Shay.

Your commitment to preserving and protecting the future of our community through your donations to 4SCF is making 4S and Del Sur a better place to live, work and play.

Your membership has never been more important! Please know how much your generosity is appreciated.

Be safe and I wish you good health,
Theresa Burke, Chair

Member Spotlight: Steve Kim

Steve Kim

Steve Kim and his wife, Tracie, have been members of the 4SCF since its founding.

Steve is most reminded of what 4SCF means to him whenever he runs into the occasional colorful cluster of hand-painted rocks placed around the neighborhood like Easter eggs.

To Steve, these rocks are indicative of the heart of the neighborhood. Children attempting to brighten the days and lives of people they have never even met is an example of the type of warmth and sense of community that Steve hopes his contributions to 4SCF help to preserve.

“From the onset, as a founding member, I’ve always felt that the work we do is bigger than just you and me. We are working towards creating a brighter future for this community and for the greater good of all communities,” said Steve.

“Since inception, contributing to 4SCF has always been a priority. The impact we can make as a group is something we would not be able to replicate individually—as they say, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.”

Grantee Spotlight: Write Out Loud

Write Out Loud

Thanks to the generous support of 4SCF and its members, 2019 grantee Write Out Loud orchestrated an impressive 33 performances for 1,673 residents of the 4S Ranch/Del Sur communities prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Write Out Loud was founded in 2007 to share a love of literature with people of all ages. Its mission is to inspire, challenge and entertain by reading literature aloud for a live audience.

The support from 4SCF helped Write Out Loud bring its StoryBox programming to 4S Ranch~Del Sur. Bringing professional actors to provide StoryBox Theatre for pre-school through 6th graders ignited imaginations, fostered discussions, provided a different cultural experience, and enhanced the foundation for reading and a love of literature.

Bringing StoryBox to both schools and the 4S library helped to reach a broad spectrum of children in the community, promoting general well-being, understanding and citizenship.

“The most unexpected result was the size of our audiences for the performances at the 4S library,” said Veronica Murphy, co-founder of Write out Loud.  “We would not have been able to expand our programming as widely into the 4S Ranch-Del Sur neighborhoods without the help from 4SCF. Thanks to 4SCF, we served over 23,000 people during our grant period, the largest impact we have ever made.”
