Give to Donor-Advised Funds

The San Diego Foundation is home to more than 2,300 donor-advised funds, including over 1,300 endowment funds, which will benefit San Diegans for generations.

Through these funds, our donors have generously granted more than $1 billion to support causes that matter most, including emerging needs, COVID-19 and disaster relief, racial equity, education, environment, health and human services, and more.

Donor-advised funds offer similar benefits to private foundations with the added value of maximum tax benefits, donor anonymity, no startup costs, and a community foundation support staff to eliminate your client’s administrative duties.

“We rely on The San Diego Foundation to identify the emerging needs in our region. With their guidance and our trust, we’re able to grant to nonprofits meeting those needs and making the most impact for causes that matter today.”

Your Client’s Legacy

Gifting an estate allows your client to create a lasting legacy in San Diego.

By establishing a planned gift, your client can communicate exactly how funds will be granted and receive peace of mind knowing that contributions will go directly back to the community and causes your client cares about, in perpetuity.

The Foundation supports the purpose and protects the integrity of our donors’ gifts and intentions.

There are many ways to give through a will or living trust. Use our Planned Gifts Calculator to run illustrations that show the income and tax benefits for your clients. Assets donated to The San Diego Foundation, a 501(c)3 public charity, are removed from your client’s estate for tax purposes.

Investing for Good

Our financial statements and investment history ensure you can trust our long-term fiscal stewardship of your clients’ charitable gifts.

Under the oversight of our Board of Governors Investment Committee and Chief Investment Officer, we invest donor-advised funds in a diverse, carefully-defined set of asset classes to mitigate risk and provide sustainable growth.

Alternatively, you can consider our AMPlify (Asset Management Partnership) program, a customized investment strategy that enables wealth advisors and their clients to set up charitable accounts at The Foundation that are managed personally by you.

Our Giving Team will work with you to identify which of our investment portfolios and accompanying fees meet your clients’ charitable goals.
