As Chief Innovation Officer, Susan Guinn seeks new funding opportunities and cross-sector initiatives that allow the San Diego Foundation and its partners to better address community needs in the San Diego County region.
As President & CEO of the San Diego Regional Policy & Innovation Center, Susan manages a team of experts and brings together community leaders dedicated to helping solve San Diego’s most pressing issues.
Susan is an experienced litigator with three decades of law practice spanning climate protection, consumer rights and product safety, workers’ rights, and human rights, including wins against Big Tobacco. She most recently served as special advisor to San Diego County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher and currently serves on the COVID-19 Community Response Fund’s Granting and Executive Committees.
Susan founded KidsEcoClub with her son in 2010 and was President of St. Paul’s Foundation for International Reconciliation, a nonprofit which provides legal and financial support to the St Paul’s Center in Kampala Uganda. She has also served as the chair of the Environmental and Sustainability Committee for the San Diego Unified School District, as well as a board member for San Diego Zoo Global, Equality California and Consumer Attorneys of California.
On August 9, 2022, we awarded $838,704 in Opening the Outdoors grants to 24 nonprofit organizations that offer equitable access to outdoor spaces in San Diego County.
“San Diego Foundation is proud to once again support its partners committed to increasing community-driven efforts to enhance accessible outdoor space, encourage youth to learn more through hands-on education and create the next generation of environmental stewards in the San Diego region,” said Christiana DeBenedict, SDF Director of Environment Initiatives.
This year’s grantees will help address these inequities and enhance access to the outdoors throughout San Diego County.
