As Director of Development, Julia works to increase the impact of charitable giving at San Diego Foundation. Through donor advised funds (DAFs), planned giving, and other philanthropic vehicles she helps donors achieve their charitable goals. She is responsible for cultivating relationships with philanthropists new to San Diego Foundation and strengthening donor and fund advisor relationships with a goal of establishing new funds and building enduring assets.
Prior to joining the Foundation, Julia served as a Director of Development at UC San Diego Health Sciences and as Senior Associate Director, Major Gifts at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
Julia is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) San Diego chapter. She earned her master’s degree in journalism from The University of Texas at Austin and her bachelor’s degree in history from Northwestern University.
On August 9, 2022, we awarded $838,704 in Opening the Outdoors grants to 24 nonprofit organizations that offer equitable access to outdoor spaces in San Diego County.
“San Diego Foundation is proud to once again support its partners committed to increasing community-driven efforts to enhance accessible outdoor space, encourage youth to learn more through hands-on education and create the next generation of environmental stewards in the San Diego region,” said Christiana DeBenedict, SDF Director of Environment Initiatives.
This year’s grantees will help address these inequities and enhance access to the outdoors throughout San Diego County.
