September 4, 2013 – San DIiego CA – The San Diego Foundation has named Matt Fettig, CFA as its new Chief Investment Officer (CIO), becoming the only nonprofit in the San Diego region with an individual specifically designated to this position.

Fettig joins an organization that, since 1975, has granted out more than $832 million to critical nonprofit organizations throughout the region. The Foundation, a public charity, provides a permanent and growing source of funding to hundreds of nonprofit agencies service the San Diego region. Through the Malin Burnham San Diego Center for Civic Engagement, The Foundation provides new, innovative, and engaging frameworks for community problem-solving, civic education, and policy analysis to address the needs of the community and build consensus for region-wide solutions that protect and enhance our quality of life.

The Foundation’s impact reaches far and wide, with nine community foundations established throughout San Diego County: Carlsbad, Oceanside, Escondido, La Jolla, Rancho Bernardo, 4SRanch~Del Sur, Chula Vista, Ramona, and San Ysidro.

In the past fiscal year alone, The San Diego Foundation introduced 78 new funds, including 28 new endowment funds, received $48 million in contributions to new and existing funds, and granted $47 million to the San Diego Community. In Fiscal Year 2013, The San Diego Foundation’s assets reached $612 million in 183 separate funds. The Foundation now manages 945 endowment funds with a total market value of nearly $364 million.

As the new Chief Investment Officer, Mr. Fettig oversees and manages the investment strategies and activities of this vital organization dedicated to effective and responsible charitable giving. In addition to managing The San Diego Foundation’s investment portfolios, he is responsible for the implementation of investment policies and serves as the organization’s ambassador for all investment-related activity.
Fettig brings solid investment knowledge and experience to The Foundation. For the past 12 years he worked at Canterbury Consulting, an Orange County investment consulting firm, specializing in endowments, foundations, pensions, and family offices. Mr. Fettig served as a Senior Research Analyst before becoming the firm’s Director of Manager Research in 2009. As a Partner of the firm, he oversaw $13 billion in invested capital, constructed investment portfolios, and established policy and asset allocation guidelines. Fettig is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, with a bachelor’s degree in Economics. He is a CFA Charterholder.
