Chula Vista, CA – The Chula Vista Charitable Foundation, an affiliate of The San Diego Foundation, is pleased to announce Michael Meacham as the new Board Chair and Debbie Discar-Espe as the Incoming Board Chair, and to welcome Mora Keller de Murguia and Shirley Harpenau as a new Board members.

Michael Meacham is Chula Vista’s Director of Economic Development and has worked for the City of Chula Vista since 1994. Over the years, Meacham has represented the City as a liaison to various boards and commissions at the regional, state and federal level and including assignment as the municipal representative on the State’s Climate Change Task Force in the Davis Administration. In addition to being a founding member of the Chula Vista Charitable Foundation, Meacham has been recognized for his work in the community by receiving the City’s Environmentalist of the Year award in 2004 and the Sierra Club of San Diego’s Distinguished Award in 2011.

Founded in 2008, the Chula Vista Charitable Foundation (CVCF) has more than 60 members who pool their resources on an annual basis to address needs in Chula Vista. Over the last year, the CVCF was able to more than double its membership. The purpose of CVCF is to meet Chula Vista’s emerging needs by encouraging and increasing responsible and effective philanthropy by and for the benefit of all who live, work, learn and play in Chula Vista. To date, the CVCF has granted more than $80,000 to organizations serving Chula Vista citizens and has raised more than $120,000 in a community endowment that will support Chula Vista’s needs in perpetuity.

On August 9, 2022, we awarded $838,704 in Opening the Outdoors grants to 24 nonprofit organizations that offer equitable access to outdoor spaces in San Diego County.
“San Diego Foundation is proud to once again support its partners committed to increasing community-driven efforts to enhance accessible outdoor space, encourage youth to learn more through hands-on education and create the next generation of environmental stewards in the San Diego region,” said Christiana DeBenedict, SDF Director of Environment Initiatives.
