San Diego Foundation is heartbroken by today’s hate-fueled attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego — a sacred place of worship and learning as the community recognizes the first day of Dhul Hijjah, a holy time for Muslims worldwide.

We extend our deepest condolences to the families of those killed, and our solidarity to the entire Muslim community of San Diego. Today’s violence is not just an attack on a mosque. It is an attack on the values of dignity, belonging and safety that unite us as a region. There is no place for this hatred in San Diego and it is up to all of us to say so, clearly and as a community.

We have reached out to Imam Taha Hassane to learn how the San Diego Foundation community can be helpful in this time of need.

ICSD Victim & Family Support Fund

On May 18, three people — Amin Abdullah, Mansour Kaziha and Nader Awad — were killed in a hate crime at the Islamic Center of San Diego (ICSD), the largest mosque in San Diego County. Thanks to their heroic efforts, teachers, school staff members and as many as 140 children were safely evacuated after the incident and ICSD continues to work closely with the authorities and emergency responders as the investigation remains active.

ICSD has established the Official ICSD Victim & Family Support Fund to assist individuals and families impacted by the tragic incident.
