Please join me in congratulating Karen Pearson as the Carlsbad Charitable Foundation Volunteer of the Year.

Karen Pearson

Karen was honored at the California Center for the Arts Oct. 28. Karen was our grant chair this year and did a fabulous job. We appreciate her dedication to our foundation. As a board member, Karen shares her time, talent and treasure with CCF and always with her bright smile and engaging personality.

Please know that your generosity is making a difference in the lives of so many. None of us can do it alone, yet together we can make a great impact on the community that we love. We are better together!

Carlsbad Charitable Foundation Grantee Spotlight- Interfaith

Interfaith Community Services

In May 2021, Carlsbad Charitable Foundation awarded a $28,050 grant to Interfaith Community Services (Interfaith) for “Coronavirus Response: Serving Homeless and Low-Income Carlsbad Community Members.” Funding was designated for a new position, Intake Specialist, at Interfaith’s multiservice center in the city of Carlsbad. This bilingual position was filled on Sept. 20, 2021, and has been critical in helping Interfaith handle the surge in community needs in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a result of grant funding, the Carlsbad Service Center was able to increase its essential services to the community in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Services included, but were not limited to, intake and assessment, rental assistance, emergency food and hygiene support, vocational case management, job placement and referrals, and client advocacy (resources and referrals) to help all clients achieve self-sufficiency.

Thanks to this funding, Interfaith was able to serve 543 homeless and low-income Carlsbad community members at the Carlsbad Service Center.

“On behalf of the whole team at Interfaith, I thank the Carlsbad Charitable Foundation for your support of our Carlsbad Service Center and helping to ensure all our neighbors can prosper and thrive.” – Greg Anglea, Chief Executive Officer, Interfaith Community Services.

CCF Member Spotlight: Renee Cohen

Renee Cohen

Renee started her career as a court reporter in San Diego. As real-time technology emerged, she began providing captioning services, assisting clients with hearing disabilities.

eCaptions.com, the business she launched, developed and eventually sold, continues to thrive, especially as remote work in general has flourished. In 2016, Renee became a licensed Realtor and currently works as an independent broker. Renee has lived in North County since 1985 and Carlsbad since 1999. She has three grown daughters, and her first grandchild on the way. Besides volunteering with CCF, she enjoys spending time with her family, sailing, swimming, woodworking and gardening.

“After attending several social events, I decided to join CCF,” Renee said. “It was clear that CCF members are dedicated volunteers who contribute their time and resources for the benefit of our community. My life has been enriched by sharing my time and energy with others.”
