San Diego Foundation is committed to strengthening communities and ensuring everyone has access to opportunity. Through the help of various San Diego Foundation grants, San Diego Foundation is helping Logan Heights Community Development Corporation’s neighbors achieve a brighter future.
Logan Heights Community Development Corporation’s CEO Monty Jones spoke with CBS 8’s Laura Cavanaugh to share how Logan Heights CDC is creating sustainable solutions for children and families in the southeast San Diego region.
As a San Diego Foundation partner, Logan Heights CDC is designed to strengthen residents and bolster business in the greater Logan Heights area through empowerment, education, economic growth and housing development. The nonprofit was recently awarded a Healthy Children & Families grant to build culturally responsive mental and behavioral health program. Specifically, the grant-funded project’s goal is to reduce the number of youth who enter the juvenile justice system or re-offend while on probation.
Through one of their many ways of helping the community, the Logan Heights CDC’s “Future Achievers Preschool” helps children get hands-on science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) academic experiences that build a foundation for preschoolers as they prepare for kindergarten. The Logan Heights CDC also provides assistance through its Career Financial Advancement Center and offers small business development help. The nonprofit organization also hosted a Level Up SD summer camp in partnership with San Diego Unified School District and San Diego Foundation.

On August 9, 2022, we awarded $838,704 in Opening the Outdoors grants to 24 nonprofit organizations that offer equitable access to outdoor spaces in San Diego County.
“San Diego Foundation is proud to once again support its partners committed to increasing community-driven efforts to enhance accessible outdoor space, encourage youth to learn more through hands-on education and create the next generation of environmental stewards in the San Diego region,” said Christiana DeBenedict, SDF Director of Environment Initiatives.
This year’s grantees will help address these inequities and enhance access to the outdoors throughout San Diego County.
