We are excited to share the continued progress and success of Coastal Community Foundation joining forces with San Diego Foundation, which took place in August 2024. The integration has been a tremendous success, with notable strides in donor services, grantmaking and expanding our community impact across North County San Diego.

Key Highlights

Expanded Charitable Assets: We’ve created new opportunities for our donors to maximize their impact through this partnership with SDF.

  • Solana Beach Fund and Encinitas Fund are both thriving, supporting scholarships and community initiatives.
  • Safe & Stable Housing Fund saw a 300% increase in grantmaking, helping vulnerable youth and seniors.
  • Hand to Hand Women’s Giving Circle is growing to nearly 100 members and increased grantmaking for vital causes.
  • Fund Continuity: 90+ funds transitioned with a remarkable 99% of donors keeping their funds with us. This strong foundation enables us to enhance giving and grow philanthropy across our region.

Looking Ahead

As we continue our work, we will expand outreach, strengthen existing funds and host more events to further engage with our community. We remain focused on growing philanthropy, community involvement and making a positive, lasting impact in North County.

Sunset Serenade: Celebrating Impact in North County

Sunset Serenade

Join us on August 10, 2025, with Peter Sprague & Band at Leichtag Commons. As part of San Diego Foundation’s Fifty & Forward campaign, this event honors the generosity that has shaped North County and the community spirit that continues to strengthen it. It offers a chance to reconnect, reflect, and recognize the impact we have made together, all while enjoying delicious food, refreshing beverages, and the sounds of Peter Sprague & Band as the sun sets over Coastal Roots Farm. The program will include brief reflections from SDF President and CEO Mark Stuart and Board Member Mel Katz on how your continued support is shaping a brighter future for North County and beyond.

Safe & Stable Housing: Supporting Seniors & Youth in Crisis

At Coastal Community Foundation, we believe that no one—especially seniors and young people—should face the fear of losing their home. That’s why our Safe & Stable Housing Committee has wrapped up its latest funding cycle with a strong focus on helping seniors stay housed and supported with critical services.

Through this effort, case workers from four trusted local service providers now have access to flexible emergency funds. These funds are designed to respond to urgent needs like rent payments, utility bills, medical costs and vehicle repairs—empowering seniors to stay safely in their homes while also connecting them to wraparound care and long-term solutions.

2025–26 Senior Grant Recipients

  • Community Resource Center: $40,000 for housing stabilization and case management
  • Jewish Family Service of San Diego: $20,000 for the Safe Parking Program, helping seniors living in vehicles
  • Brother Benno Foundation: $40,000 for emergency assistance to low-income seniors
  • Interfaith Community Services: $39,600 for homelessness prevention services across North County

Real Impact: A Youth Story

Andrea, a 24-year-old North County resident, became the full-time caregiver for her disabled veteran father. When expenses outpaced her income, she turned to Interfaith for support. Thanks to a previous Youth Cycle grant from the Safe & Stable Housing Fund, she received critical rental assistance during her job search. The funds helped her maintain stable housing for herself and her father through a pivotal transition—proof that direct aid can truly transform lives.

Youth Fundraising Update

We’re proud to share that over $90,000 has been raised to support youth in crisis.

  • A $20,000 donation from Helmut & Pat
  • A $37,000 match from the Quality Care Foundation and the Karen Wahler & Michael Gay 2022 Charitable Fund at San Diego Foundation

These funds will ensure that more youth receive timely help to avoid homelessness and stay on the path to stability.

Together, we’re building a more compassionate, secure community—one where every senior and young adult has the opportunity to live with dignity and hope. Make a difference and donate today.

Encinitas Fund Update: March 2025 Meeting and Rising Stars Scholarship Program

CRC

The Encinitas Fund had its first meeting of 2025 in March, bringing together community members from diverse backgrounds, including local businesses, nonprofits, community leaders, teachers and dedicated philanthropists. The conversation was centered around building partnerships with the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce and the Encinitas Garden Festival, along with exploring potential future grant investments aimed at strengthening our community.

One exciting announcement from this meeting is the Encinitas Fund’s commitment to the Rising Stars scholarship program. This year, the fund is proud to support the program with a $10,000 donation, which will provide scholarships to high school seniors who have demonstrated excellence in their studies and community involvement.

If you live or work in Encinitas and are passionate about making a difference, we invite you to join us in shaping the future of our community. For more information or to get involved, please email us at coastal-info@sdfoundation.org.

Solana Beach Fund Update: Spring 2025 Grants and Community Support

The committee of the Solana Beach Fund has been diligently working to identify and address the most pressing needs in our community. This spring, they granted $9,000 to assist families who recently lost everything in a devastating apartment fire. Community Resource Center has been an incredible partner, providing vital resources and support to help these families get back on their feet. For more information on this impactful effort, please read the full press release on the San Diego Foundation website.

In addition to supporting those affected by the fire, the Solana Beach Fund also made a significant investment in health services for the community. Last fall, the fund purchased a new dental chair for St. James-St. Leo Dental Clinic, enabling them to expand their ability to serve low-income families with critical dental care.

If you live or work in Solana Beach and are interested in contributing to meaningful community impact, we would love to have you join us. For more information or to get involved, please email us at coastal-info@sdfoundation.org.
