June 30, 2026 – San Diego, CA – More North County seniors will be able to remain housed through $195,000 in grants from the at San Diego Foundation. The funding will support eight nonprofit organizations providing flexible financial assistance, housing stabilization services and other critical support to help older adults avoid homelessness and maintain stable housing.
As recently reported by the Regional Task Force on Homelessness, despite progress, senior homelessness continues to grow and remains one of our region’s most pressing concerns. The latest point-in-time count reveals that adults older than 55 make up 33% of the unsheltered population, with more than half experiencing homelessness for the first time.
For many seniors, a temporary financial setback, unexpected medical expense or caregiving responsibility can put their housing at risk. By supporting them quickly and connecting them to long-term resources, these programs help older adults stay in their homes and avoid the disruption and costs associated with homelessness.
“By addressing the urgent needs of older adults who are struggling to remain housed or age in place, we help them stay connected to the communities they know and love,” said Bob Kent, chair of the Safe & Stable Housing Fund committee. “These organizations understand the unique challenges seniors face and provide the timely support that can make the difference between housing stability and actually experiencing homelessness.”
The Safe & Stable Housing Fund invests in solutions that address housing emergencies early, helping seniors maintain their housing, independence and community connections.
The 2026 grants support the following organizations:
- $20,000 to Community Resource Center (CRC) to provide emergency housing assistance, counseling and trauma-informed support for seniors facing housing instability, helping older adults remain safely housed and avoid eviction.
- $40,000 to Family Health Centers of San Diego to provide housing stabilization assistance, healthcare coordination and social work support for North County seniors experiencing housing crises related to medical conditions, caregiving responsibilities and other health challenges.
- $30,000 to Interfaith Community Services to provide flexible financial assistance, case management and connections to long-term housing resources, helping North County seniors achieve lasting housing stability.
- $15,000 to Parkinson’s Association of San Diego to help seniors living with Parkinson’s disease remain housed by offsetting caregiving costs and other financial pressures associated with disease progression.
- $30,000 to The Brother Benno Foundation to provide emergency rental and utility assistance for vulnerable seniors facing housing emergencies, helping older adults remain housed during times of crisis.
- $20,000 to The Center for Senior Wellbeing to provide housing advocacy, benefits navigation and care coordination services for older adults, helping seniors access critical resources and maintain housing stability.
- $20,000 to Townspeople to support an innovative shared housing program that helps seniors remain housed when unexpected financial setbacks threaten their ability to afford housing.
- $20,000 to TrueCare to identify seniors at risk of housing loss and provide rapid assistance and supportive services, helping older adults maintain housing stability and access to care.
Established in 2023 by a group of North County philanthropists, the Safe & Stable Housing Fund supports proven and innovative approaches to prevent homelessness among youth and older adults. In just three years, the fund has awarded more than $560,000 to organizations providing homelessness prevention services and housing diversion programs across the region.
