Did you know The San Diego Foundation is the largest scholarship provider in San Diego County outside the university systems?
As the cost of higher education continues to rise, The Foundation and our generous donors continue to help local students pursue their educational goals.
Last year, $2.5 million was awarded to more than 800 students. Since 1997, more than $24 million in scholarships has been awarded to thousands of San Diego students.
We’re excited to announce that the 2015-2016 Community Scholarship Application for The San Diego Foundation Community Scholarship Program is available online now through February 4, 2015.
Using our online application, students can access more than 100 scholarship opportunities for the 2015- 2016 academic year, with awards generally ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.
Scholarships are available for:
Criteria for individual scholarships go beyond grade point average and include awards based on activities (such as arts, athletics or community service), gender, ethnicity and school district. Some scholarships are based on a specific life event, including children of divorce and students living in foster care, or target low-and middle-income families.
A full list of criteria is available.
Some scholarships can be renewed for multiple years, helping off-set the financial burden for more than the first year of school.
The Common Scholarship Application can be accessed here.
For questions, email scholarships@sdfoundation.org or call 619-814-1343. The deadline to complete the application is Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at 1:00 p.m.

It’s important to have donors contribute to and setup new scholarship funds because the number of applicants in need of financial aid continues to rise significantly due to the ever-growing cost of higher education.
Despite the ever-rising costs of education, we believe everyone has a right to higher education, and we know that affordable education is imperative to the future of our region.
You can contribute to an existing fund or start your own fund in order to make higher education possible for more San Diegans. Click below to learn how you can make an impact.
On August 9, 2022, we awarded $838,704 in Opening the Outdoors grants to 24 nonprofit organizations that offer equitable access to outdoor spaces in San Diego County.
“San Diego Foundation is proud to once again support its partners committed to increasing community-driven efforts to enhance accessible outdoor space, encourage youth to learn more through hands-on education and create the next generation of environmental stewards in the San Diego region,” said Christiana DeBenedict, SDF Director of Environment Initiatives.
This year’s grantees will help address these inequities and enhance access to the outdoors throughout San Diego County.
