Assistant Director, Binational Resilience Initiative

Dr. Yamilett Carrillo holds a Ph.D. in Natural Resources with a specialization in Soil, Water, and Environmental Sciences, complemented by a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. With over a decade of leadership experience in philanthropic initiatives focused on environmental conservation and binational collaboration, she currently serves as the Assistant Director of the Binational Resilience Initiative at the San Diego Foundation. In this role, she spearheads the foundation’s inaugural binational program dedicated to advancing coastal and watershed resilience projects across the Cali Baja region.

With more than 20 years of expertise in US-Mexico hydro-diplomacy, Dr. Carrillo possesses deep insights into navigating the complexities of binational environmental solutions. She has been appointed to the board of EPA’s Good Neighbor Environmental Program and has founded a nonprofit organization, gaining firsthand experience in scaling nonprofit initiatives from concept to impactful, binational environmental projects. Additionally, she has supported nonprofit leaders in strengthening their organizational capacity and resilience.
