Matt Fettig, CFA

Vice President, Chief Investment Officer & Chief Financial Officer

As Chief Investment Officer & Chief Financial Officer, Matt oversees the investment strategies and activities of San Diego Foundation while providing financial leadership across the organization.

This includes working with the Investment Committee of the Board of Governors, senior staff, auditors, professional volunteers, and outside consultants to establish, maintain, administer, and monitor policies related to The Foundation’s investments, and working with the Board’s Finance & Administration and Audit & Risk Committees to ensure that financial operations, compliance, audit and enterprise risk management functions operate with appropriate independence and rigor. Additionally, he serves as the organization’s ambassador for all investment-related activity.

Prior to joining the Foundation, Matt worked for 12 years at Canterbury Consulting, an Orange County investment consulting firm, specializing in endowments, foundations, pensions, and family offices. Matt served as a Senior Research Analyst before becoming the firm’s Director of Manager Research in 2009. As a Partner of the firm, he oversaw $13 billion in invested capital, constructed investment portfolios, and established policy and asset allocation guidelines.

A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, with a bachelor’s degree in Economics, Matt is a CFA Charterholder.
