Hiram Soto

Director, Marketing & Communications

Hiram Soto is the Director of Marketing & Communications at San Diego Foundation, where he leads storytelling, media relations, and content strategy to advance the organization’s mission and elevate its impact across the region. As the Foundation’s lead storyteller, Hiram develops narrative strategies that support effective philanthropy, strengthen public trust, and highlight community-driven solutions to San Diego’s most pressing challenges.

A former reporter, Hiram brings a journalist’s instincts for clarity, accuracy, and accountability to his work. His career spans nonprofit, foundation, advocacy, and agency settings, with deep experience advancing narrative change, promoting human rights, and supporting policy and systems-level impact. He has led communications efforts for organizations working across issues such as immigration, environmental justice, housing stability, LGBTQ+ rights, and community health at the local, state, and national levels.

Hiram also brings a strong marketing background, having developed and led national and multi-state campaigns for government-funded programs and global brands, with a focus on reaching diverse and historically underserved communities. Across his work, he centers equity, cultural relevance, and dignity, guided by the belief that how stories are told shapes what is possible.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and Spanish literature from the University of Redlands and is fluent in Spanish.
