July 6, 2021 – San Diego, CA – The San Diego Foundation Board of Governors has appointed Steven Klosterman, AIF, as chair for the 2021 – 2023 term, and unanimously approved the addition of three new board members: Rudolph A. Johnson III, Elvin Lai and Amanda Montgomery.

“We are excited to work with Steven as we embark on the launch of our new strategic plan,” said Mark Stuart, President and CEO of The San Diego Foundation. “Rudy, Elvin and Amanda also bring a diversity of experience and backgrounds to our Board, which will help lead The Foundation as we pursue just, equitable and resilient communities for all San Diegans.”

Klosterman, Johnson, Lai and Montgomery start their terms on July 1, 2021. The San Diego Foundation Board of Governors is composed of volunteers with diverse professional backgrounds, who are involved in many community and charitable activities throughout San Diego.

ABOUT STEVEN KLOSTERMAN, AIF

Formerly TSDF Board of Governors Secretary, Klosterman advises a wide range of individual and institutional clients, including a family office and their two foundations, entrepreneurs, executives and retirees as Regional Director at Halbert Hargrove. He began his investment management career in 1981, and later formed his own Registered Investment Advisory business.

Klosterman is a Past Chair of The UCLA Foundation and is a founding board member and currently serves on the UCLA Investment Company Board. He also serves on the Investment Committee for the National American Lung Association. Klosterman received his bachelor’s degree from UCLA, an MBA from Stanford University and the Accredited Investment Fiduciary™ (AIF) from the University of Pittsburgh-affiliated Center for Fiduciary Studies.

ABOUT RUDULPH “RUDY” A. JOHNSON, III

Johnson is currently President and CEO of the San Diego-based Neighborhood House Association, one of the largest multi-purpose nonprofits in San Diego County. Having spent most of his life in San Diego, he is inspired by the struggles that families, children and seniors face each day to make ends meet and knows that the programs and services NHA provides make a huge difference in their lives and in the community as a whole. As a child, Johnson participated in NHA’s Federal Head Start program.

Today, he leads the organization with great passion and a vision that has transformed NHA into one of the nation’s model human services agencies, with 24 programs, 800 employees, a $96 million budget and an economic impact of more than $200 million to the local area. As an accomplished senior executive, Johnson has a career record of providing business insight, transformational leadership and strategic vision, including stints with the City of San Diego and the San Diego Convention Center.

ABOUT ELVIN LAI

Lai is a fourth-generation owner-operator of the 71-room Ocean Park Inn hotel in Pacific Beach, which was reimagined for a spring 2021 debut. He is the immediate past president of the San Diego County Hotel-Motel Association and played a leading role in establishing the Pacific Beach Clean and Safe program. He is a serial entrepreneur, with four different businesses in three different sectors.

A graduate of the University of San Diego, Lai’s greatest passions are building relationships, supporting the growth of our tourism industry and working to better our community for future generations. Lai is active on several boards throughout San Diego, including Mayor Todd Gloria’s Asian Pacific Islander (API) Advisory Board, San Diego Convention Center Corporation and the Asian Business Association of San Diego, among others.

ABOUT AMANDA MONTGOMERY

Montgomery currently serves as Head of Office, San Diego/Senior Relationship Manager, North America Institutional Team for Allianz Global Investors, an international active asset manager. She is also vice chair of The San Diego Foundation’s Investment Committee that drives asset management and investment growth to meet fund objectives. Montgomery is an active investment committee volunteer for several San Diego-based nonprofits, including the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, San Diego County Bar Association, Girl Scouts San Diego and Southern California Professional Golfers’ Association.

Prior to Allianz Global Investors, she worked for the San Diego City Employee Retirement System (SDCERS) and Morgan Stanley & Co. Montgomery also served in the U.S. Navy, eventually rising to the rank of Lieutenant, Civil Engineer Corps at Naval Base Coronado.
