February 5, 2026 – San Diego, CA — San Diego Foundation (SDF) today announced the appointment of Matt Fettig as Chief Investment Officer and Chief Financial Officer, expanding his role to lead both investment strategy and financial operations.

After serving more than 12 years as SDF Chief Investment Officer, under Fettig’s leadership SDF will bring investment and finance functions together to strengthen coordination, accountability and long-term sustainability.

In this new role, Fettig will continue to work closely with the Board, Investment Committee, senior staff, auditors, supporting organizations and affiliates, along with external partners.

“I’m honored to take on this expanded role at a moment when patience, discipline and long-term thinking matter deeply,” said Matt Fettig. “With this alignment, we will ensure SDF remains a steady partner to donors and nonprofits serving San Diegans for the long term.”

During Fettig’s tenure as Chief Investment Officer, SDF assets have grown from $612 million to $1.8 billion, enabling the organization to award more than $102 million in grants during its most recent fiscal year.

Fettig brings more than 25 years of nonprofit financial and investment expertise to the role. Prior to joining SDF in 2013, he spent 13 years in investment consulting at Canterbury Consulting, where he specialized in serving endowments, foundations, pensions and family offices. As a partner at the firm, he oversaw $13 billion in invested capital, constructed investment portfolios and established policy and asset allocation guidelines. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of California, Berkeley, and is a CFA Charterholder.
