April 1, 2026 – San Diego, CA – San Diego Foundation is launching the Growing Green Spaces Grant Program this Earth Month, a new funding opportunity supporting community-driven projects that bring more trees, gardens and green spaces to neighborhoods that need them most.
Grants ranging from $15,000 to $40,000 will help nonprofit organizations bring these projects to life over the next year.
Projects may include planting trees to cool overheated neighborhoods, building community gardens or restoring native habitats – helping create greener, healthier communities, especially in areas that have historically lacked access to parks and green spaces.
“Every family deserves access to nature close to home. Green spaces are places for people to gather, connect with one another and find peace in the outdoors,” “Through Growing Green Spaces, we’re supporting community leaders who can transform underused land into vibrant places that strengthen both the health of our environment and the well-being of the people who call San Diego County home.”
The Growing Green Spaces Grant Program expands urban green spaces while addressing climate challenges including extreme heat, flooding and air pollution. The program prioritizes projects developed and led by organizations working in communities most affected by environmental and climate impacts.
Grant funding will support projects such as:
- Planting and caring for trees that provide shade and cleaner air
- Creating community gardens and shared spaces to grow fresh food
- Restoring native plants that support birds, bees and wildlife
- Adding shade and green space to parks, streets and public areas
Applications will be accepted until April 30 at 5pm PST. Nonprofit organizations and public entities serving communities across San Diego County are eligible to apply.
Organizations interested in applying can review eligibility requirements and submit applications at SDFoundation.org/GrowingGreenSpaces.
