Spring is here!

Our Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation (RBCF) board members are already planning for our community 2023 Thanksgiving Luncheon on Thursday, November 16. Due to a very busy calendar at the RB Inn, we will have our luncheon one week before Thanksgiving.

Michael Ortiz

We are pleased to have honored our treasurer, Michael Ortiz, at the RB Hats Off to Volunteers event on April 29. Please join the board in congratulating and thanking Michael for his service to RBCF.

It was great fun seeing so many people at our social on March 1 at Carver’s!

Sharlene O’Keefe, Executive Director of Poway OnStage, addressed the group sharing the impact the RBCF grants have made on the youth programs at Poway OnStage.

Funding from RBCF helped Arts Education. The support brought professional performing arts exposure to the students of Rancho Bernardo. Exposing children to the arts via integrated programs that align with VAPA standards and connect with classroom learning helps to build a healthy, vital community. Creative learning communities result in greater academic understanding while broadening their worldview and appreciation for our region’s diversity.

A 2nd-grade teacher wrote, “The program exposed my students to the music of a culture they may not have known before. Their interest in the engaging lessons influences them to be respectful and appreciative of the beauty of diversity!”

Thanks to all of you who attended!

The 2023 RBCF Grant Guidelines have been released. If you would like to participate at a deeper level on grants; membership or events committees, please let me know or contact Trudy Armstrong at Trudy@sdfoundation.org.

Nothing is possible without your generous donations. It is your membership that makes this possible.

RBCF Grantee Spotlight: Poway Symphony Orchestra (PSO) Foundation

Poway Symphony

In November 2021, RBCF awarded Poway Symphony Orchestra Foundation (PSO) $3,000 for Symphonic Concerts. PSO Vice-President, Bo Matthys, reported the following program success.

The Orchestra’s mission is “to make live classical symphonic music accessible to audiences and fellow performers of communities in North County Inland for their musical enjoyment and cultural and educational enrichment.” As planned, the orchestra performed three concerts at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts, in March, May and November 2022. Guest artists were contracted to join the orchestra in each of the concerts.

Average attendance for the three events has exceeded that of prior years. The concert of November 20, 2022, especially was a tremendous success, featuring renowned pianist Misha Dichter as a soloist in two concertos.

Based on these audience sizes, it is believed that PSO has established itself as an important contributor to the performing arts scene in and around Poway and Rancho Bernardo. The live music performances fill a need in the community and contribute to the good of the community, thereby achieving the main purpose of the PSO mission.
