September 8, 2026 – Carlsbad, California – Older adults and young people in Carlsbad will have more opportunities to participate in music, visual art, choral performance and spoken word thanks to $86,500 in grants from Carlsbad Charitable Foundation (CCF), an affiliate of San Diego Foundation (SDF).

The theme for this year’s grantmaking was Arts and Culture, with CCF awarding grants to four local nonprofits that support the development and growth of performing and visual arts in Carlsbad.

CCF celebrated this year’s grantees and their work in the community during its 2026 Grants Celebration on Sept. 3 at the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Discovery Center.

This year’s grants support:

  • Hospice of the North Coast — $21,000: For Music Therapy for Seniors to support music therapy and creative connection.
  • Kids for Peace — $34,000: For Peace Through Art, creating opportunities for young people to engage with and express themselves through visual art.
  • Carlsbad High School Choral Boosters — $15,000: For the Carlsbad High School Choral Program, supporting opportunities for students to learn, perform and grow through music.
  • Glassless Minds — $16,500: For Voices of CHS: Youth Spoken Word & Performance Series, giving young people a platform to develop and share their voices through spoken word and performance.

“The arts have a unique way of bringing people together and helping us feel connected to the place we call home,” said JR Phillips, Carlsbad Charitable Foundation board chair. “These grants will give older adults opportunities to connect through music and young people new ways to create, perform and share their voices. Those experiences can stay with people, strengthen connections and help make Carlsbad an even more vibrant community.”

For nearly 20 years, CCF has granted more than $1.4 million to nonprofit programs serving the Carlsbad community. Through its annual grantmaking, CCF members help identify and support local organizations responding to the community’s priorities.
