You may not know it because of his humble nature, but Jack Raymond has played a significant role in the growth of San Diego for decades.
Just glancing at his involvement with the San Diego Economic Development Corporation, San Diego County Human Resources Advisory Board, CSUSM Foundation and The San Diego Foundation Regional Affiliate Program, just to name a few, the local leader has nearly done it all.
But Jack’s resume tells only half the story.
To learn about the full impact Jack has had on his community, his peers paint the complete picture.
“Jack and I first met in 1970,” said Ken Lounsbery, longtime friend and business partner. “From day one, it was obvious that Jack’s greatest qualities include a sense of purpose and dedication to completion.”
These are the same qualities Jack leverages in his philanthropic efforts throughout the region.

He was recently recognized by LEAD San Diego with The Ronald Kendrick Memorial Award for Regional Collaboration. The annual award goes to an individual who exemplifies visionary leadership by focusing on collaborative solutions to solving critical problems throughout the region.
This is Jack in a nutshell.
As a resident of Escondido since 1944, Jack has pursued a lifetime of community work throughout North County and greater San Diego, and worked to break down the barriers between regions to create a more unified approach to matters of community interest.
As Ken puts it, “Jack ignites the passion in others when it comes to community service, particularly charitable giving. He does so much – the list of contributions is long – that others are obliged to follow his lead. No one can say ‘no’ to Jack because they know he leads by example.”
When he applies his drive and passion to charitable giving, Jack is an unstoppable force.
San Diego Foundation Board Member Hollyce Phillips summarizes his tenacity perfectly: “Jack is the energizer bunny of philanthropy; he keeps going and going, and giving and giving,” she laughed.

And in stepping back, Hollyce portrays the legacy Jack is creating: “Jack is an extraordinary example of what philanthropy can accomplish. He believes in making a difference. His humble, inclusive nature coupled with an infectious enthusiasm makes him a standout among leaders.”
No matter who you speak to, Jack’s impact has one common theme – he continually raises the bar for the region and those who believe in its future.
On August 9, 2022, we awarded $838,704 in Opening the Outdoors grants to 24 nonprofit organizations that offer equitable access to outdoor spaces in San Diego County.
“San Diego Foundation is proud to once again support its partners committed to increasing community-driven efforts to enhance accessible outdoor space, encourage youth to learn more through hands-on education and create the next generation of environmental stewards in the San Diego region,” said Christiana DeBenedict, SDF Director of Environment Initiatives.
This year’s grantees will help address these inequities and enhance access to the outdoors throughout San Diego County.
