February 17, 2026 – San Diego, CA – Encinitas residents rely on local nonprofit organizations every day for essential services and opportunities to connect. In its largest grant round to date, the Encinitas Fund at San Diego Foundation has awarded $60,000 to 12 organizations serving the community.

The grants will support initiatives across Encinitas – including a new weekly healthy meal box program for families, expanded soft-plastic recycling efforts, free live music at the Encinitas Library and surf therapy for underserved youth.

Founded by local residents and originally established under the Coastal Community Foundation, the Encinitas Fund is a community-led giving circle at San Diego Foundation that pools donations from individuals, families and businesses to support nonprofit organizations serving Encinitas. Through collective giving, the fund directs resources to programs that strengthen community well-being and quality of life.

“Encinitas is a special place where people care deeply about one another, and the Encinitas Fund gives us a way to turn that care into action,” said Katrina Dodson, an Encinitas resident and supporter of the Encinitas Fund. “By coming together through collective giving, we’re able to support the organizations that show up for our neighbors every day and ensure our community thrives.”

Each organization received a $5,000 grant from the Encinitas Fund to support the following programs and initiatives:

  • Changing Tides Foundation: To support the Outreach Mentorship Program, empowering teens through surf-based mentorship, leadership development and environmental education.
  • Encinitas Community Garden: To expand the Garden Plots for Community Hunger Relief program, increasing access to fresh, organic produce for local hunger relief partners.
  • Encinitas Historical Society: To support student programming, archival digitization, exhibit development, accessibility upgrades and inclusive storytelling initiatives.
  • Encinitas Union School District (EUSD) Farm Lab: To advance sustainability and climate education for K–6 students through improvements to the district’s regenerative school farm.
  • Experience Nature Unplugged: To support the Plug into Something Better program, promoting youth mental wellness through digital wellness education and nature-based activities.
  • Friends of the Encinitas Library: To support free monthly live music concerts that foster community connection and cultural access at the Encinitas Library.
  • Healthy Day Partners: To launch the Healthy Neighbor Box, a weekly food distribution program supporting food-insecure Encinitas families.
  • Plastic Beach: To expand community access to soft-plastic recycling through collection, education and environmental stewardship initiatives.
  • Andrew’s Episcopal Church Food Pantry: To help ensure continued access to nutritious food for individuals and families facing food insecurity in Encinitas.
  • The Joy Connection: To support inclusive, movement-based programs for children and adults of all abilities that promote physical, emotional and social well-being.
  • Un Mar de Colores: To support surf therapy, environmental education and mentorship programming for underserved youth in Encinitas.

Each grant will help local organizations have the resources needed to sustain and grow their work in Encinitas.
