January 10, 2018 – Chula Vista, CA – Chula Vista Charitable Foundation (CVCF), an affiliate of The San Diego Foundation, today announced its permanent endowment fund has surpassed $500,000, amounting to approximately $750,000 worth of impact in Chula Vista since inception. The CVCF endowment serves as a charitable savings account that will support grantmaking to nonprofit organizations and programs impacting the Chula Vista community in perpetuity.
“Every day, Chula Vistans play an active role in strengthening and advancing quality of life in the region,” shared Debbie Espe, CVCF Board Chair. “Chula Vista Charitable Foundation utilizes the power of collective giving to make a difference in the community. By growing our endowment to more than $500,000, we are creating a more vibrant region today while investing in the future of Chula Vista for generations to come.”
CVCF is made up of more than 100 residents and companies dedicated to improving the quality of life and meeting emerging needs in Chula Vista. Members help increase responsible and effective philanthropy; build a community endowment for the benefit of the region; provide funds annually to community organizations and causes, and give the community a vehicle for legacy planning and gifts that will benefit Chula Vista now and forever.
Half of all membership dues go immediately into annual grantmaking to nonprofits while the other half goes into a permanent endowment that will support grantmaking and nonprofit organizations serving the Chula Vista community in perpetuity.
Since 2011, CVCF has granted more than $240,000 to dozens of nonprofit organizations serving the community. Each year’s grant cycle has a different focus ranging from health and human services, to civic engagement and the environment.
CVCF members, local leaders and the community will come together to celebrate the $500,000 endowment milestone on Thursday, January 18 at The Gentle Penguin. The event is free and open to all individuals living and working in Chula Vista.

On August 9, 2022, we awarded $838,704 in Opening the Outdoors grants to 24 nonprofit organizations that offer equitable access to outdoor spaces in San Diego County.
“San Diego Foundation is proud to once again support its partners committed to increasing community-driven efforts to enhance accessible outdoor space, encourage youth to learn more through hands-on education and create the next generation of environmental stewards in the San Diego region,” said Christiana DeBenedict, SDF Director of Environment Initiatives.
This year’s grantees will help address these inequities and enhance access to the outdoors throughout San Diego County.
