June 12, 2025, Carlsbad, CA – On Wednesday, June 11, the Carlsbad Charitable Foundation (CCF), an affiliate of San Diego Foundation (SDF), hosted its Annual Grant Awards Celebration and awarded $80,000 to five local nonprofits.
This year’s grants support projects that promote the health and well-being of children and families in Carlsbad – with a focus on areas such as self-sufficiency, childcare, mental health, food and home insecurity, healthy lifestyles and domestic violence prevention.
“Children and families in Carlsbad are facing many new challenges in the current economy and climate.” said Bret Schanzenbach, CCF Board Chair. “We are so pleased to support these wonderful organizations and their work in Carlsbad!”
Since 2008, CCF has granted more than $1.4 million to over 55 nonprofit programs.
The list of 2025-2026 grantees includes:
- Foundation For Women Warriors – $15,000 to support women veterans and their children, helping them transition to civilian life and prevent homelessness. The Emergency Financial and Childcare Assistance project addresses unique challenges faced by women veterans, including higher rates of PTSD and limited support networks. It provides essential services such as housing and childcare assistance, mental health referrals and professional development programs.
- Kids’ Turn San Diego – $13,000 to support the well-being of children experiencing family separation by reducing high parental conflict, domestic violence and child abuse. Kids’ Turn empowers children, builds resilience and increases self-esteem, while helping parents improve communication and understand their impact on their kids. This project fosters forgiveness and healing – changing the negative trajectory of children’s lives who face emotional difficulties due to conflict at home.
- Olive Crest – $15,000 to strengthen families and protect children from abuse. This supports the Strong Families and Foster programs, which serve families facing urgent challenges such as housing instability, domestic violence and mental health crises. The Strong Families program offers temporary safe homes for children while their parents work through short-term difficulties – helping prevent the need for child welfare intervention. At the same time, the Foster program provides loving, secure homes for children who have been removed from dangerous and abusive situations.
- ProduceGood – $11,000 to cultivate a community committed to sustainable solutions that fight hunger, reduce waste and promote health. Generation Glean builds an equitable food system through school programs and community outreach – ensuring long-term impact and a healthier future. By educating communities about food waste, food insecurity and nutrition, the organization empowers youth to become informed, inspired agents of change.
- Sleep in Heavenly Peace – $7,500 to ensure that no child sleeps on the floor by providing fully furnished twin-size beds to children aged 3-17 in need. The mission focuses on raising awareness about child bedlessness and its effects on physical and mental well-being, while mobilizing volunteers and community partners to build and deliver beds. By addressing home insecurity, mental health and physical health, we create stable environments and promote self-sufficiency for families facing hardships.
- Women’s Resource Center – $18,500 to eliminate domestic violence and sexual assault by helping victims rebuild their lives. The WRC’s Alternatives to Abuse program focuses on empowering children and their families by enhancing social skills and fostering strong family units. Its 28-day emergency shelter offers safety for families fleeing violence, allowing parents to pursue employment and appointments while children heal in a supportive environment. By using a trauma-informed approach, WRC helps children develop resilience and self-esteem – ultimately promoting healthier futures and preventing cycles of abuse.
