Growing Green Spaces in Our Region
Trees, parks and community gardens play an important role in community health and climate resilience. Yet not all neighborhoods across San Diego County have equal access to safe, welcoming green spaces.
Areas with fewer trees and parks often experience higher temperatures, limited shade and fewer opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Investing in green infrastructure helps reduce heat, improve air, water and food quality, and strengthen mental and physical health.
Growing Green Spaces supports community-driven projects that plant trees, expand gardens and create accessible open spaces throughout the region.
Growing Green Spaces helps to:
Reduce Impacts of Climate Change
Transform underutilized or paved areas into green spaces with trees, gardens and cool, shaded areas that lower temperatures and improve air quality.
Increase Access to Green Space
Support projects such as community gardens, tree planting and outdoor learning spaces that expand opportunities for residents to connect with nature and foster climate resilience.
Strengthen Healthy Communities
Create welcoming spaces that encourage physical activity, social connection and environmental stewardship, contributing to stronger, more resilient neighborhoods.
