First-Generation Students
The Community Scholars Initiative helps San Diegans prepare for, pay for and persist through college by providing financial support and critical wraparound services that bolster academic achievement.
Since 2017, the initiative has supported more than 360 low-income, first-generation college students throughout San Diego County, thanks to the college access and success programs of six community-based partners.
The Community Scholars Initiative helps to:

Increase Equity
Assisting low-income, first-generation students provides the support needed for them to find academic, professional and personal success

Build a Local Workforce
Supporting local students helps them stay in or return to our local workforce

Create Resilient Communities
Providing wraparound services — like food and housing assistance or mental and behavioral health resources — helps build a more resilient community for students and their neighbors
