Outdoor Access for All

Many neighborhoods across San Diego County have fewer nearby parks and limited opportunities to experience the outdoors.

Since 2010, Opening the Outdoors has expanded access to parks, green spaces and outdoor programming, especially in communities furthest from opportunity. Through grants, partnerships and equipment support, the program helps local organizations connect youth and families to meaningful outdoor experiences.

Access to nature supports physical health, mental well-being and a strong quality of life — and this work is possible because donors and partners believe every San Diegan deserves that access, regardless of neighborhood or income.

“Growing up, I always felt like I wasn’t super involved in STEM because of my disability, but the camp and apprenticeship program were so welcoming and gave me the opportunities to get involved with science in ways I didn’t know I could.”

Give Close to Home

San Diego is the home we all share. And when our neighbors need us, we show up. A gift to San Diego Foundation is how we take care of each other – one family, one neighborhood, one gift at a time.
