From Coastline to Neighborhood
Climate change is already reshaping life here, from hotter summers and increasingly vulnerable coastlines to neighborhoods that bear an unequal share of the impact.
Every San Diegan deserves access to the outdoor spaces that make this region special. And every neighborhood deserves the trees, parks and green spaces that help communities thrive. Our programs meet each of these needs.

of the City of San Diego is covered by tree canopy, less than half the city’s goal of 35% by 2035. (Source: City of San Diego)
Our Strategies
Climate
A changing climate touches every part of the region, from binational coastal communities to historic neighborhoods carrying the weight of decades of pollution. We invest in research, resilience projects and community-led climate solutions.
Opening the Outdoors
Access to nature shouldn’t depend on your ZIP Code. We fund programs that connect youth and families to parks, trails and outdoor experiences, especially in communities where that access has been limited.
Growing Green Spaces
Trees, gardens and green spaces cool neighborhoods, clean the air and give communities places to gather. We invest in expanding green infrastructure where it’s needed most.

Give Close to Home
San Diego is the home we all share. And when our neighbors need us, we show up. A gift to San Diego Foundation is how we take care of each other – one family, one neighborhood, one gift at a time.
