Gerardo Jaimes Garcia

Senior Manager, Education Initiatives

Gerardo Ameriel Jaimes Garcia is currently a Senior Manager for the Education Initiatives team at San Diego Foundation. With over a decade of professional experience advocating for educational equity in San Diego, Gerardo’s passion derives from the personal socio-economic and legal barriers he experienced as a student.

Expanded learning enabled the essential enrichment opportunities to strive for a postsecondary education as well as overcome college access hurdles living in a mixed status household. As a result, Gerardo enrolled and graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a BA in Ethnic Studies. He started his professional career as a college guidance counselor and supported over a thousand high school seniors through the college application process. From this role, he further understood the key factors necessary to support under-resourced youth and began creating programs and organizational infrastructures to expand the impact on youth. This trajectory resulted in him continuing his education where he earned his Master of Education in Higher Education, from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education.

Apart from his professional work, Gerardo is a proud husband and father of two. He enjoys following his diverse sports teams and occasionally enjoying the social scenes San Diego has to offer.
