Solana Beach, CA (May 6, 2025) – The Coastal Community Foundation at San Diego Foundation announced today that it has granted $9,000 through the Solana Beach Fund to the Community Resource Center (CRC) to assist 19 residents displaced by an apartment fire in La Colonia De Eden Gardens in January.

This fire resulted in significant damage to five housing units, highlighting the importance of community support in times of crisis.

The funds from the Solana Beach Fund have enabled CRC to respond to the urgent needs of affected families, providing essential items ranging from toiletries to food and temporary housing. Thanks to the combined efforts of local community members and organizations, CRC helped five families with financial assistance and caseworker support to address their losses.

Dave Clemons, co-chair of the Solana Beach Fund, credits community activist and volunteer, Lisa Montes, with success of the grants, “Lisa worked tirelessly with the impacted families to determine their needs and to help them navigate the process during these difficult times.”

One family expressed their gratitude for the assistance with replacing clothing lost or damaged in the blaze. CRC not only offered financial support but also provided food from their Food and Nutrition Center, as well as clothing and blankets from their emergency supply closet.

Another family, struggling with job loss and losing everything in the fire, received financial aid and access to housing resources. While some residents were able to return to their apartments, others remain displaced due to the extent of the damage.

This situation exemplifies the importance of community collaboration and the role of the Solana Beach Fund in bringing together local resources, knowledge and expertise to effectively address emergent needs.

The Solana Beach Fund, a part of the Coastal Community Foundation at San Diego Foundation, is dedicated to addressing local needs and fostering philanthropy through ongoing and legacy contributions. Since its inception, the fund has awarded over $215,000 to nonprofit programs and initiatives that benefit Solana Beach and its residents. Recent contributions have included funding for a new dental chair at St. Leo’s Medical-Dental Clinic and relocation assistance for residents affected by the redevelopment of Solana Highlands Apartments.
