Learning Beyond the School Day
When every child has the chance to learn, San Diego grows with them — and time outside the classroom plays an important role in that growth.
SDF’s Expanded Learning programs help students across the county access high-quality learning opportunities, including:
- The Level Up SD partnership with San Diego Unified School District (2021 to 2025), which invested nearly $50 million to deliver more than 75,000 summer enrichment experiences
- The GEMS County Expanded Learning Program, which focuses on math and literacy skill-building
- BiGI, a University of San Diego partnership that helps middle and high-schoolers with mentorship, academic support, family engagement and college tuition
These programs give students safe, engaging environments to explore interests, strengthen academic skills and build confidence.
This work is possible because donors and education partners share a commitment to helping every student stay engaged, build skills and return to school ready to learn, all year long.
“I think it’s really important to continue to grow our partnerships. They continue to invest in our little ones because at the end of the day, they are our future leaders.”

Give Close to Home
San Diego is the home we all share. And when our neighbors need us, we show up. A gift to San Diego Foundation is how we take care of each other – one family, one neighborhood, one gift at a time.
