Wraparound Support that Makes a Difference
Too many local students face real barriers to reaching graduation day, from limited financial resources to a lack of mentorship and support.
Through the Community Scholars Initiative (CSI), San Diego Foundation partners with nonprofits to fund college-readiness training and wraparound support services that help high school students prepare for college, reach college and contribute to a thriving local workforce after college.
Since 2017, CSI has supported more than 9,000 first-generation college students from families with limited financial means through over $1.6 million in scholarships.
A recent program evaluation found the greatest impact comes from focusing on students facing the highest barriers to college completion, including:
- English language learners
- Students experiencing homelessness
- Students with disabilities
- Foster youth
- LGBTQ+ students and allies

Give Close to Home
San Diego is the home we all share. And when our neighbors need us, we show up. A gift to San Diego Foundation is how we take care of each other – one family, one neighborhood, one gift at a time.
