As Manager, Community Impact, Victoria “Tori” Nelson Calisch supports the Early Childhood Initiative, working to increase access to affordable, quality early education and care for children in San Diego County. Her focus is to ensure that all young children ages 0-5, their families and their providers have equitable access to support to thrive in school and beyond. Prior to this role, Tori served as San Diego Foundation’s Thomas Murphy Fellow, Early Childhood Initiative.
Tori’s previous professional experience includes five years of United Way work experience with the United Way of Northeast Florida, United Way of Fresno and United Way of San Diego. There, she combined major fundraising with community development work in early childhood success, economic self-sufficiency and women in leadership. Additionally, Tori brings more than fifteen years of volunteer leadership serving children and military families with a focus on literacy, education and community grants. She currently volunteers as a National Delegate for Girl Scouts San Diego as well as a Brownie/Junior Girl Scout Troop leader.
Tori earned her undergraduate degree in Economics from Wellesley College and her Master’s in Nonprofit Administration from University of Notre Dame's Mendoza College of Business.
On August 9, 2022, we awarded $838,704 in Opening the Outdoors grants to 24 nonprofit organizations that offer equitable access to outdoor spaces in San Diego County.
“San Diego Foundation is proud to once again support its partners committed to increasing community-driven efforts to enhance accessible outdoor space, encourage youth to learn more through hands-on education and create the next generation of environmental stewards in the San Diego region,” said Christiana DeBenedict, SDF Director of Environment Initiatives.
This year’s grantees will help address these inequities and enhance access to the outdoors throughout San Diego County.
