San Diegans Celebrate Impact of Philanthropy at 40th

Hundreds of local philanthropists, community leaders, nonprofits and partners came together on October 28 in Balboa Park to celebrate the $1.5 billion impact philanthropy and The San Diego Foundation has had on the region.

The event, “A Walk in the Park,” marked The Foundation’s 40th Anniversary and was an opportunity for civic-minded San Diegans to experience the cultural attractions of Balboa Park and toast to 40 more years of philanthropic leadership in the region.

“San Diegans are proud of our region. And we are proud of the many cities and neighborhoods that make up the fabric of our community,” emphasized Kathlyn Mead, President and CEO of The Foundation, as she addressed guests at the San Diego Natural History Museum. “Since our founding members came together in 1975, The Foundation has granted more than $939 million to nonprofits working to improve the quality of life throughout San Diego.

The San Diego Foundation and its donors have stood as a pillar of the region’s growth for 40 years. With more than $422 million in endowment funds, The Foundation will remain a catalyst for positive change for generations to come.

A Night to Remember

The anniversary event, sponsored by BD and other businesses, embodied the spirit of the San Diego community.

Every generation of San Diegan was represented, as people from across the County explored Balboa Park’s museums and attractions, led by special tours from Balboa Park Conservancyvolunteers. From the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, to Spreckels Organ Pavilion and Museum of Photographic Arts, the beauty of the park took center stage.

The evening culminated with a reception for all guests, featuring entertainment from local musician Ryan Hiller, the San Diego Symphony, San Diego Junior Theater and San Diego Civic Youth Ballet.
