Katie Sawyer

Katie oversees day-to-day operations and strategic direction of the San Diego Women’s Foundation (SDWF), ensuring that programs and services delivered are consistent with the organization’s mission to engage women in significant philanthropy.

Katie works closely with SDWF board of directors, members, community partners and staff to guide an effective grantmaking process and to provide programming that helps members become more savvy, strategic philanthropists.

Katie’s background includes extensive experience in nonprofit management, development and strategic planning. She previously served as Director of Philanthropy at United Way of San Diego County, where she engaged philanthropists and community leaders in the organization’s region-wide work. She has also led Girls on the Run of New Orleans as Executive Director and worked in direct service in Cincinnati.

Katie holds bachelor’s degrees in Spanish and Business from The Ohio State University and master’s degrees in Spanish and Portuguese from Tulane University. She is a graduate of LEAD San Diego’s Impact and Influence programs, and a member of San Diego Rotary Club 33 and the Fieldstone Leadership Network. She received Assembly District 78’s Woman of the Year award in 2018, and was named San Diego’s 2019 Nonprofit Visionary by San Diego Magazine.
