RANCHO BERNARDO COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS
AFTER-THE-FIRES GRANTS TO HELP RANCHO BERNARDO
Initial Grants Total $65,750 to Support Critical Areas of Need
March 18 , 2008 -- In the aftermath of the November 2007 Witch Creek Fire, The Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation brought together community and business leaders to assess the needs of the Rancho Bernardo community. Out of this meeting, RB United was formed and now serves as a coalition dedicated to meeting the needs of fire survivors within and around Rancho Bernardo. While the fires were still impacting the community, the RB Community Foundation Board requested that The San Diego Foundation Regional Disaster Fund Board create an After-the-Fires fund specifically for Rancho Bernardo. To date, people from all over the country contributed approximately $40,000 to the Rancho Bernardo After-the-Fires Fund. Read the News Release

The San Diego Foundation Offers Over $60,000 in Assistance with Teachers’ Fund
March 10 , 2008 -- The San Diego Foundation announced today the launch of the 2008-2009 San Diego Teachers’ Fund program. In light of looming cuts to the state’s education budget, the assistance that the Teachers’ Fund program offers resource-strapped teachers is a welcome relief. Though few would dispute the importance of providing our children with the highest quality of education, school funding is still in jeopardy. SAN DIEGO ARTS SCENE GETS BOOST FROM RENEWED PHILANTHROPIC COMMITMENT
Funds Part of Statewide Effort to Increase Investment in the Arts; Grants to The San Diego Foundation Total $950,000
March 6 , 2008 -- The James Irvine Foundation today announced nearly $3.2 million in grants to eight California community foundations that will support regional arts efforts as part of its Communities Advancing the Arts (CAA) initiative. The 4S Ranch~Del Sur Community Foundation is in its first year of grant making. Each year the chosen grants focus area will change. In the current cycle, the 4S Ranch~Del Sur Community Foundation will only accept proposals in the field of youth education and or youth services.

THE SAN DIEGO FOUNDATION ANNNOUNCES OVER $2 MILLION IN SCHOLARSHIPS FOR LOCAL STUDENTS
The Gwen Stefani After-the-Fires Scholarship Available for Fire Victims
December 6, 2007 – The San Diego Foundation, which administers the largest nonuniversity- based scholarship program in San Diego County, announced today the release of its 2008-2009 scholarship applications and guidelines.
Coming on the heels of the October wildfires, this announcement may be especially welcomed by fire-affected families. The San Diego Foundation has created the After-the- Fires Scholarship Fund to help those adversely affected by the fires. Major funding for these scholarships was provided by recording artist Gwen Stefani, who donated the proceeds from her October 30th concert in San Diego. Stefani stated, "When I heard about the devastation of the fires, at first I felt I should cancel my show out of respect. But then it occurred to me there might be a more useful solution.” The Gwen Stefani After-the-Fires Scholarship will be open to graduating high school seniors and current college students who lost their homes and/or source of income in the 2007 wildfires.

Fire Relief Fundraising At Women Who Mean Business Awards Yields $50,000
November 7, 2007 -- The San Diego Foundation announced today that $50,000 was raised for fire relief during the San Diego Business Journal’s Women Who Mean Business Awards. This total includes matching funds provided by the After-the-Fires Fund 2007 for donations from attendees at the November 1st event. The $50,000 will benefit two organizations that support the fire fighting teams in the San Diego region: the San Diego Fire Rescue Foundation and the San Diego Regional Fire & Emergency Services Foundation (SDRFESF).

California ’s Major League teams join forces
