Scholarship Sends Leaders of Local Nonprofit Organizations
To a Strategic Management Seminar at the Harvard Business School.
SAN DIEGO, CA – December 2, 2004 -- The Harvard Business School
(HBS) Alumni Club of San Diego and The San Diego Foundation, San
Diego's leader in charitable giving, are establishing an annual
scholarship to help local nonprofit institutions improve their strategic
management.
Each year the scholarship will send one or two Executive Directors
from San Diego’s nonprofit organizations to the HBS "Strategic
Perspectives in Nonprofit Management" executive education program.
The six-day course provides attendees with an intense learning experience
that includes immersion with other nonprofit leaders from all over
the country, a concentrated focus on sharpening the missions of
their organizations, and world-class teaching in management.
“By creating the opportunity for local nonprofit executives
to benefit from the expertise of the Harvard Business School, our
alumni club is able to provide the opportunity for them to enhance
their entire organization and better serve San Diego,” said
Miro Copic, president of the club. “This scholarship fosters
the mission of HBS to ‘develop leaders who make a difference’
and with the goal of our club to contribute to the San Diego community.”
“We are delighted to be working with the HBS Club to provide
another opportunity for nonprofits to better serve their missions,”
said Bob Kelly, president and CEO of The San Diego Foundation. “As
expectations for our nonprofits grow, so does the need for better
and more business-like management skills. The SPNM program addresses
a critical need for many nonprofit leaders.”
The next SPNM seminar will be held from July 17 through 23, 2005
on the HBS campus. The scholarship covers the cost of tuition, travel,
books, room and board. To qualify for the scholarship, applicants
must be the head of a nonprofit organization focusing on the arts,
education, health care, human services, community development, the
environment, or a related area. Applications are available now at
http://nonprofitleadership.org and will be due on March 4, 2005.
