San Diego, CA August 8, 2006 – The San Diego Foundation has been recognized for having organizational and financial practices that are in accordance with the rigorous Council on Foundations’ National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations. Only 37% of the nation’s community foundations have been awarded the National Standards Seal which indicates integrity and demonstrated excellence in the field.

The National Standards were created in 2000 to aid community foundations in establishing legal, ethical and effective operational practices. In order to achieve confirmation of compliance, community foundations must undergo an extensive review of all policies and procedures.
The San Diego Foundation is a leader in the philanthropy sector’s movement toward greater accountability and transparency and is, to date, the only foundation in the San Diego region to receive this honor.
