Just Released - The After-The-Fires Community Needs Assessment Update
|
|
We are pleased to release the October 2007 Community Needs Assessment Update. Nearly one year after one of San Diego’s most devastating natural disasters, the needs and priorities of those impacted by the fires have evolved. The San Diego Foundation and its Regional Disaster Fund felt it imperative to update the assessment so that on-going recovery work can be as effective as possible.
Significant knowledge has been gained from the assessment process. For example:
Did you know that of the 1,600 homes destroyed
less than 100 have been rebuilt?
In addition to invaluable information, the report also provides a few simple calls to action to help the community become more involved in rebuilding efforts. Click below to see how you can help.

Community Impact and Tax Breaks:
The Mutually Beneficial Gift of Giving in this Uncertain Economy
The current financial climate has created challenges for both our donors and the organizations that need us. Our donors need practical ways to brace themselves for the uncertain economy. Community organizations see increased need and decreased dollars.
The San Diego Foundation can help with both. We work with organizations to best understand the growing needs of our community. We also engage with professional advisors and financial managers to help donors best understand and maximize the benefits of giving. As we enter the final quarter of this tax year, we encourage our donors to consider how their contributions benefit not only the community, but them as taxpayers. As always, we are here to provide resources and answer questions about how contributions can be mutually beneficial to a wonderful cause and to the generous donor who gives to it.

Estate Tax Expertise
We believe it is our responsibility to help our donors understand and navigate through the complex world of giving and associated taxes. Charles Foster (CFP, CFA) offered his expertise on the Estate Tax through his article IRA Assets Disclaimed to Allow Tax-Fee Flow to Charity.
