Nonprofit Resource Center

The San Diego Foundation’s Nonprofit Resource Center (NRC) is an information hub offering research services, publications, and workshops. We are designed to help nonprofit organizations who seek to further their understanding of the world of philanthropy. Our library collection covers subjects of interest to the nonprofit sector including management, governance, best practice, and fund-raising.

Organizations looking for grants can take advantage of databases, periodicals, and publications such as:

  • Foundation Directory Online, FDO, with more than 90,000 foundations and associated grants
  • The San Diego Funders Online Directory, featuring approximately 740 local grant-making organizations
  • National Guide Directories profiling foundations by broad field of interest
  • Guides to proposal writing, grant-seeking, and winning proposals

Individuals seeking scholarships, research grants, and funding for other limited opportunities will find the following resources particularly useful:

  • Foundation Grants to Individuals, online database of over 6,000 funding sources in education, research, arts and culture, and special needs
  • Directories profiling scholarship and fellowship prospects

Open to the public, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., staff is available to assist and consult on Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Appointments are not necessary but be sure to call and confirm the librarian is available.

The NRC is closed on public holidays.

The NRC, referred to as a Cooperating Collection, is part of a network of national and regional reference libraries established by The Foundation Center in New York.
