How to Apply for Foundation Grants

As the population of San Diego continues to grow, the needs grow as well. The San Diego Foundation's mission is never-ending. The Foundation estimates that it can only fill a portion of the community's needs through its grantmaking.

And yet, hundreds of thousands of dollars are awarded each year to a wide variety of causes and organizations. That's a message of hope for those seeking funds for worthwhile causes.

Grant Distribution

The commitment of fund donors is complemented by The San Diego Foundation's volunteer Board, 31 committed community leaders who review all proposals and applications. The Board awards grants and scholarships from unrestricted and field of interest funds for key community needs. In addition, there are hundreds of special interest and advised funds, where the funding individuals remain involved in fund objectives and direct money to specific causes and charities. Finally, the Board annually grants a growing number of discretionary grants to a wide variety of local causes. Such funds exceeded $1 million in the last fiscal year.
