in 1997 by Social Venture Partners, Seattle. Their very successful
model has led to approximately 20 other cities organizing their
own funds based on the Seattle SVP approach. SDSVP seeks to develop
philanthropy and volunteerism to achieve positive social change
in the San Diego region. Using the venture capital approach, SDSVP
is committed to giving time, money and expertise to create more

The San Diego Teachers' Fund
“Making a Difference One Classroom at a Time”
Though few would dispute the importance of providing our children with the highest quality of education, school funding is still in jeopardy. Year-after-year teachers reach deep into their own pockets to provide students with the resources they need to succeed.
The San Diego Teachers' Fund K-6 Program provides mini-grants to San Diego County’s elementary public school teachers for the development and implementation of innovative classroom projects. In 2001, the Arts in the Classroom Program was created to provide grants to high school arts teachers when funds are insufficient or unavailable. As part of the grant, teachers are encouraged to share their projects with their colleagues.
The deadline for submitting applications for our San Diego Teachers’ Fund Program was May 18, 2009. Applications are no longer being accepted for the 2009 grants cycle.
