Grant Opportunities
The San Diego Foundation is honored to be able to claim $60 million in grants to community causes each year, but we cannot take all the credit. Over ninety percent of our annual grants are driven directly by our donors. These are individuals, families and corporations making grants from their funds to the organizations and causes that are important to them.
Competitive grant opportunities administered by The San Diego Foundation are described below:
Program Grants
The San Diego Foundation’s program grants cover specific subject areas including Arts & Culture, Civil Society, Environment, Health & Human Services, Organizational Success Program, and Science & Technology. Staff and Working Group volunteers with subject-specific expertise review eligible proposals and make recommendations for grantee partnerships.
Our program grants are driven by our mission, values and a focus on results that will bring lasting benefits to each community in our region. In 2009, The Foundation granted out $1.2 million to our communities.
Affiliate Foundations
The San Diego Foundation is home to four affiliate foundations whose mission is to provide leadership to increase, encourage and inspire effective philanthropy in their communities. Following the model set by The San Diego Women’s Foundation, the affiliate foundations focus areas change annually.
