In June of 2006, through the Community Impact Grant Awards Program, The San Diego Foundation awarded $1.8 million in grants to 59 organizations. These grants are funded in two ways: from the Fund for the Common Good (our unrestricted assets) and from contributions of Friends of The Foundation.

In 2006, Friends of The Foundation helped:

Bring the Dead Sea Scrolls to the San Diego Natural History Museum
Create a community development plan for the revitalization of Golden Hill
Provide financial education for low-income families trying to buy their first homes in San Diego County
Purchase land along the San Diego River for permanent conservation
Establish a teacher training program for enriching middle school science education in classrooms throughout the San Diego region
Provide training and technical assistance to local nonprofits, enabling these organizations to better serve our community
