San Diego Social Venture Partners’ (SDSVP) mission is to cultivate effective philanthropists who drive community solutions through investments of time, expertise and resources. SDSVP is part of an international network of over 1,900 Partners in 25 cities and three countries. The network has given more than $26.5 million in cash, and six times that amount in in-kind contributions, to over 300 nonprofits.
SDSVP is the best social investment in town and our recent impact study proves it. SDSVP builds capacity through cash grants, technical assistance, and connecting professional volunteers (Partners) with nonprofits. Last year, we donated over $1.6 million in cash and in-kind services to the community, including 13,000 Partner volunteer hours. Our Investees rated us a 100% in satisfaction.
SDSVP works with Investees to identify the particular areas of capacity it needs to develop, and then provides targeted resources to strengthen those areas. In a recent impact survey, the areas where Investees reported receiving the most value were:
- Strategic Planning: 96%
- Program Design: 92%
- Management and Leadership: 88%
- Board Development: 86%

SDSVP’s strategy for building capacity is to provide a complete package of money, professional-level volunteers (Partners), consultants and networking opportunities to its Investee organizations.
- Over the past year, our Partners donated 13,000 hours to the community and 68 Partners volunteered on projects that focused on strengthening capacity.
- During 2008, the total value-added by SVP partners was over $1.6 million.
- During this same period, cash grants to Investees totaled $214,250.
The value-added by SVP Partners was more than 8X the value of cash grants!
