Corporate Advised Foundations

Charitable Investments Build Company Equity.
A Corporate Advised Foundation Can Help
.

Most companies give to charities and nonprofit organizations for the best possible reason: to support community groups and their missions. But such investments can help the company as well, not only in tax benefits but in building goodwill, marketing exposure and employee satisfaction. The San Diego Foundation can help maximize your charitable giving while minimizing the administrative burden with a turnkey Corporate Advised Foundation that not only meets your goals but also simplifies the process and monitors results for major grants.

How a Corporate Advised Foundation Works

  • Your company makes a gift (cash, appreciated stocks, real estate or other assets) to The San Diego Foundation, which places the gift into a special fund in your company’s name.

  • Your company receives tax benefits in the year your gift is made.

  • You (or a team of employees) recommend grants from the fund to support the causes and organizations you care about most. If desired, our professional program staff is available to assist you. Your recommendations are presented to our Board for approval.

  • We handle the administrative details and issue grants to charities in the name of the fund you establish.

  • If you want to make a permanent commitment to the community, your gift can be used to create an endowment fund that will last in perpetuity. The principal of the fund is invested and a portion of the earnings is used to make grants to the community. Your gift – and all future earnings from your gift – form a permanent source of community capital, in your name, helping to do good work forever.
