Early Career Research Awards Initiative with grants from the Blasker-Rose-Miah Fund for support of innovative research and post-graduate early career scientists

The Blasker-Rose-Miah Fund was established at The San Diego Foundation "to nurture and develop unique and innovative discoveries and experiences which may be of benefit to all mankind, and to support and encourage individuals with high potential in the scientific, engineering, and medical fields to reach their full potential in their chosen areas of study, work, and analysis." Blasker Grants will be awarded in two areas: Science & Technology and Environment. Grants will support projects that have the potential to improve the quality of life in the San Diego region and support and encourage San Diegans to reach their full potential.

With severe budget cuts at the National Institute of Health and other funding agencies, many scientists are worried that lack of available funding will devastate research programs, stifle innovation and discourage the next generation of researchers. Research Awards from the Blasker fund and other Foundation funds encourage emerging scientists to push the boundaries of our scientific and technological capabilities, so the San Diego region will continue to lead the world in inquiry, invention and innovation.

Science & Technology Research Awards from the Blasker Fund support researchers in a broad range of scientific disciplines, such as astronomy, biology, chemistry, computational science, engineering, epidemiology, genetics, information science, and molecular science. Furthermore interdisciplinary research merging the boundaries of fields and pushing the frontiers of innovation are increasingly making a positive impact in society in areas such as computational genetics, nanoscale biological engineering, material sciences, and an array of life science discovery.
