Making Education Possible for San Diego Students

Adrian and Betsy Gonzalez with scholarship recipients and Betsy’s brother, Enrique Perez

Our series of Scholarship Celebration events -- one of the most exciting times for The Foundation -- brings together our generous donors and scholarship recipients. The donors enjoy the development of personal relationships with their recipients, and the recipients are motivated and inspired by knowing that they have a supportive family at The Foundation which ultimately compels them to make their generous donors proud of their career achievements and life choices. For some, this is the first time they have experienced pure altruism.

Adrian and Betsy Gonzalez seek a commitment to giving back to the community in their application process. The couple exudes the true meaning of philanthropy. To find out more about the Adrian Gonzalez Scholarship program, read the press release or to donate directly to their foundation, visit their website here.

With the 2010-2011 scholarship season officially closed, we are pleased to announce that we have awarded an estimated $2.5 million to over 600 students, continuing our proud distinction as the largest scholarship provider in the San Diego region. The program offers a wide variety of scholarships for a diverse group of students, including graduating seniors, current college students and adults looking to return to school.

For more information on this outstanding program, please visit the Community Scholarship Program section of our website or contact Arzo Mansury, Director of Scholarships.

Volunteer Committee Stepped Up For Fundraising

Current and past members of The Foundation’s Scholarship Selection Committee collectively donated $30,000 to acquire a special module as its new financial and grantmaking software to manage the scholarship process. There is 100% participation from the current scholarship committee. Former committee members were also eager to support the effort having first-hand knowledge of the labor intensive paper processing. The scholarship committees, both past and present, work intimately with Foundation staff on the selection and become deeply engaged with the recipients. This compelling and rewarding experience increased their willingness to be involved in the module demonstration, selection and acquisition. As a result of their generous support, The Foundation will cost-effectively provide scholarships to San Diego County with an estimated 50% increase in efficiency. The committee involvement will be streamlined for a more valuable use of their time, and students will benefit from a simplified application process that scans more than 75 available scholarships for eligibility.
